For Good Reason Houston, this means we must support the development of new school models and the expansion of schools already in high demand. We will encourage districts to work directly with parents to identify and call for quality schools that meet specific parent demand.

THE MAJORITY OF HOUSTON PARENTS EXPRESSED INTEREST IN ENROLLING THEIR CHILDREN IN ALL TYPES OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.There is a consistent interest among parents to enroll their children in alternative options. While interest is strongest within the neighborhood school option, more than half of parents would consider enrolling their children in charter, magnet, and special interest public schools.

TRADITIONAL ISD PARENTS FEEL POSITIVELY ABOUT ALL SCHOOL TYPES.Traditional ISD parents have equally strong positive opinions of all public school types, and these opinions remain largely consistent after being provided additional context of each school type.

PARENTS ARE UNAWARE OF CHOICES

OPPOSITION TO CHARTERS IS LOW AMONG ALL PARENTS.Slightly more than half of traditional ISD parents have heard of charter schools, and their depth of knowledge is low. Among those parents who have heard of charter schools, most (85%) report they are only somewhat familiar at best. However, very few say they are anti-charter, and this sentiment is consistent across districts.
